Brutal opening episode. Harsh and emotional. The book is already a classic I expect no less from the anime.

Basically think of the series as a more shonen version of MuvLuv Alternative (which if it takes a great deal of inspiration from). Very good setup and atmosphere in the beginning but unfortunately the anime takes FOREVER to get anywhere after episode 2. Great soundtrack and opening theme though.

As straight-up primal horror it's pretty effective and the characters are well-drawn and sympathetic but it's not my cup of tea.

emotional intense. Also, I can't help but notice how relentlessly sadistic the series writers are towards the characters. They're not too shy about portraying human selfishness & stupidity either.
