A deaf elementary school girl, Nishimiya Shouko, upon transferring, meets a boy named Ishida Shouya in her new class. Shouya, who is not deaf, leads the class in bullying Shouko, because she is deaf. As the bullying continues, the class starts to bully Shouya for bullying Shouko. After graduating from elementary school, Shouko and Shouya do not speak to each other. Until later, when Shouya, tormented over his past, decides he must see Shouko once more. Shouya wants to make amends for what he did in elementary school and be Shouko's friend.

Wow -- here's a bunch of realistic kids with some serious problems, with themselves and each other.  And a full two-hour movie with a complex story that never once takes the easy way out.  I haven't been this impressed in a long time.  This deserves to become a classic.

This started out very slowly, and was a generally slow paced movie.  
Initially, I didn't like that, but by the end, I had completely warmed up to it.  

I recommend this to anyone who can get past watching something that is slower paced than most slice-of-life shows.

a very odd start to a very heart warming movie. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is into anime.

Can one make up for past mistakes? Maybe... this shows how difficult it can be. A great film that got looked over by the juggernaut of Your Name but just as powerful.
