Ok, I know its realllllllyy old lol but this is one of the better mecha styled manga/anime that can be found. Yeah I can see you rolling your eyes, but its true, when you think about mecha manga/anime usually what comes to mind is something like Gundam Seed but Magic Knight Rayearth isn't like that, it takes mecha to a different level and the experience of reading or watching it is completely different. The art is intriguing (no that doesn't mean it looks weird) and the plot is rather interesting, a lot of manga tend to have a huge amount of foreshadowing to try and get you more up to speed with what is happening around the characters, in this case Umi, Fuu, and Hikaru are taken from Tokyo tower to an entirely different place, a place of fantasy and instead of being told about whats going on you instead have to learn at the pace of the three main characters. I also find that most mecha manga/anime jump rather quickly into the giant robots, flying shit and what not, in this case you are taken to many different things and through a great starting plot before you even realize its actually mecha based, I also can't say I have read or watched many mecha styles that also use magic in fantasy typed reality either. Overall I'd say if you like fantasy based manga, a little different kinda of mecha, some odd humor and feel like you are one of the characters this is probably a manga you'd enjoy, I'd say if your still not sure if you really wanna read it to go and watch one of the episodes (NOT THE DUB!!! *glares*) and go from there since it gives you a great starting point to realize if its something you may enjoy or not.

The manga AND anime are defiantly on my recommending read/watching list!
