Dragon Dentist
Nonoko is a newly appointed dentist and her mission is to protect the dragon, the guardian of the country, from tooth-cavity bacteria. One day, amid increasingly fierce battles with the neighboring country, Nonoko finds on the dragon's tooth an unconscious boy soldier from the enemy country. His name is Bell, and he has been resurrected from inside the tooth by the dragon - a supernatural phenomenon that legend says occurs before a major disaster. As Nonoko and Bell go through a series of fierce battles, they eventually learn to accept their fate.
Nonoko est un dentiste récemment nommé et sa mission est de protéger le dragon, le gardien du pays, des bactéries dentaires. Un jour, au milieu de batailles de plus en plus féroces avec le pays voisin, Nonoko trouve sur la dent du dragon un soldat inconscient du pays ennemi. Son nom est Bell, et il a été ressuscité de l'intérieur de la dent par le dragon - un phénomène surnaturel que la légende dit se produit avant une catastrophe majeure. In the war between order and chaos, who are the bad guys -- if anyone? If the walls of reality have too many portals and windows, will they become dangerously weak? Is refusing to accept your fate an act of heroism or cowardice? And if a hero becomes evil, merges with a giant transdimensional arachnoid, then ends up as a grumpy antivillain, is it creepy to think she's still hot? I myself can't answer any of those questions, but at the end of this movie, I felt like the characters had truly passed through the fire and come out the other side.

The story of this anime was very much outside the normal for most anime produced these days, and I found that refreshing. There were a few of the typical cliches (ie. tomboy is teamed up with useless-boy and together they save the day) but it was executed in a very atypical way. The movie did a good job of introducing the world lore as it went. The protagonist has no clue what is going on, meaning the audience learns with him (another cliche). The characters were a bit different than normal archetypes, but did keep to typical anime character types (as i mentioned, a useless boy protagonist, a tomboy girl as our two main characters, and then various other characters ranging from the wizened elder to the childhood friend archetypes).
Overall, I did enjoy it, but mostly just because I don't see this too much in anime these days - usually you see school life and slice of life or else a power-up-to-save-the-world like dragonball or, to some degree, one-piece.
