Ukishima Shrine is located in an old, picturesque lakeside town. Shrine maiden Kisaragi Saya lives there along with her father, Tadayoshi. By day, she lives the life of a normal high school student at Sanbara Academy. By night, she hunts the Elder Bairns (Old Ones). Possessing supernatural physical prowess, the Elder Bairns prey on humans, and only Saya has the ability to defeat them.

If mary poppins were a vampire slayer than Saya would be it. Though the character are drawn with stilt legs is odd. The whole cheerful class with equally creepy twins leaves me wonder what in this town IS normal. Not a car or person in the street when Saya walks home. It leaves me wonder who in this whole town isn't potential monster.
It seemed okay.
There was violence and blood, that was good. For such a long intro nothing gets explained.
Great bouncing between her bright and happy daylife to her dark and blood filled nightmare experiences. Definately worth watching, even if just for the gore. Humor attempts amusing, not side-splitting, though may be so when the viewer becomes more involved with the characters through more episodes.
I love multidimensional characters. Saya's transformation from cheerful, klutzy school girl to badass demonslayer is terrific, and her glasses are the perfect accessory to unify her personality with a hint of style.
i'm basing my review on more than just the 1st episode, so my impression will differ those who've just seen the 1st one. in one word; depressing. like the devilman/lady series, everybody dies. even the main character's innocence eventually becomes creepy. overall, kinda disturbing.
